  § 1. What is FIMAM?
Forum of Researchers on the Arab and Muslim World

FIMAM is an initiative of scientific cooperation and thematic information on the Arab and Muslim World that was established in April 1995 by a group of Spanish researchers. FIMAM's work has focused on three objectives over the last years:

  • The creation of a center of debate and discussion among specialists in different fields, focusing on social, cultural, economic and political realities of Arab-Muslim countries and societies.
  • To promote knowledge of research taking place in these fields in Spain, and in other international academic contexts.
  • Contribute to the exchange of information, documentation and bibliographical references among researchers of the same field who share interests.

Apart from being an e-mail exchange network, FIMAM has also annually met in Castellon (1995), Toledo (1996), Granada (1997), Barcelona (1998), Cordoba (1999) y Alicante (2001), Valencia (2002) and Tarragona-Altafulla (2003).

Currently, the Forum comprises an important representation of the Spanish research panorama concerning the Arab-Muslim area, with work centers in Andalusia, Catalonia, Comunidad Valenciana and Madrid.

FIMAM is completely independent from any other organisations its members may belong to. Also, it is an open network that promotes the incorporation of new members.
